What is Osteopathy?
This is a good question, and one that we get asked on a regular basis. Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine/therapy that helps the body cope with, and recover from various mechanical problems. See our “Services” page for common conditions we treat. There are two main forms of osteopathy, biomechanical osteopathy and cranial osteopathy. Biomechanical osteopathy is the most commonly used treatment style. This is where your practitioner uses direct techniques such as soft tissue work/massage, joint adjustment techniques such as manipulations and exercise prescription.
What is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy is a gentle and safe form of osteopathy. Treatment is subtle movements and gentle pressure to get the body working together in the least invasive way possible. Cranial osteopathy is the best treatment for babies, some pregnant women, people suffering with post COVID headaches and long COVID as well as the elderly suffering with arthritis. Benefits of cranial osteopathy include decreased pain levels, decreased headaches, increased range of movement, increased everyday function of your body. For babies, cranial osteopathy helps with latching difficulties, reflux, colic, uneven head shape such as plagiocephaly etc.
At Active Health Osteo, Kendyl practices all forms of evidence-based osteopathy, allowing us to give you the best treatment available. Factors she considers when deciding what techniques to use include your body/tissue type, injury stage, medical history, age, pain tolerance and personal preference. Most people will need a mix of biomechanical and cranial osteopathy. This means that you get tailored treatment, enabling your body to heal faster.
